Why it's important to keep up with your SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

So, you optimized your website…. You added META tags: titles, keywords, and description, and even made sure your code is validated, but… where are the results?

Unfortunately, many don’t understand that SEO is not a 1, 2, or 3 time deal. SEO, especially organic, is an ongoing process. If SEO wasn’t, many companies would pay thousands and have immediate success, watering down the true intelligence of search results, causing a long term decrease in search engine users. Whether you know it or not, the reason you go back to Google time and time again is because it gives you what you want.

As discussed in a blog article a few months ago (Five Steps To Take To Make Your Website SEO Friendly), there are many factors that Google uses to determine where and how it will rank your site. Many of these factors can be contributed to over a long-period of time, resulting in higher and higher organic results. Many of you know that you can pay per click on search engines, but that is not what we are talking about here. Organic SEO is a long-term SEO process that leads to higher natural rankings in the actual results, where-as PPC is pay-per-click and has nothing to do with your true search engine results.

Let’s discuss a few of the on-going organic seo techniques we put in place to achieve organic SEO results.

Back Links – Google is constantly checking for the number of back links that go to your website. Put simply, the more back links, the more Google credits your website to be useful, as many of websites are linking to it. Google doesn’t really care about large spam-filled directories that you can post your link on. Google cares more that websites with established Page Ranks are linking to you vs. spam websites that appeared overnight.

Article/Press Release Submissions – What’s even better than a link back to your site, is an article with a link back to your site. Submitting press releases and articles constantly is another method to make your website have greater amounts of traffic, establish credibility, and improve back-links – all factors which Google takes into consideration when ranking your site.

Social Bookmarking – Social bookmarking is the act of taking a website and bookmarking it on a social media website such as Digg or StumbleUpon. This can not only bring you instant traffic, but can also establish more back-links,  more awareness, more credibility – again, all factors in which Google uses in its’ ranking system.

The above are just some of many SEO techniques used to achieve natural and organic rankings over a long period of time. Techniques such as we described should be done for a time period of at LEAST 6-12 months. Though this takes longer than just running a Pay-Per-Click campaign and seeing instant clicks, it will be a much greater ROI (Return on Your Investment). You will also get more quality clicks to your site, as well as consistently higher-rankings over time. With Pay-Per-Click (PPC) campaigns, when you stop paying, your results are completely gone.
