Videos: If you can, you should.

One of the transitions taking place in online media is the more frequent use of videos. As more companies make use of videos, more visitors get used to seeing them.

A 30-90 second video on your homepage/website can drastically increase the chance of visitors understanding what you do, learning why you’re the best at what you do, and proceed to initiate a consultation with you or buy products/services from you.

Informative videos don’t work for all companies/websites, and they are by no means an absolute must, but they are one of the most efficient ways to deliver a message to visitors explaining what you do and who you are, in the shortest amount of time.

Cater to the Lazy

In today’s society, people are getting lazier and lazier and want the information they’re looking for spoon fed to them. It’s why so many news companies and media outlets are forced to deliver content to you via iPad and iPhone apps, among other mobile devices.

A fun, but informative, 30-90 second video, is a great way to capture the attention of the lazy. If someone is lazy, chances are they are not going to click through and read 10 pages of content on your website that can be summarized (not talked about in length) in a video.

KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid

You’ve probably heard the acronym KISS before – Keep It Simple Stupid. You don’t want to elongate an informative video and let people fall asleep. You also don’t want to get too complicated. You want to fully summarize what it is you do in the shortest amount of time.

It’s important that you note I keep saying “30-90 second video”. A longer video, such as even 4, 5, or 6 minutes can lead tom visitors being bored quickly if your video isn’t entertaining (and entertainment really shouldn’t be your goal) enough.

Take a look at a few examples of companies using videos to explain the overview of their services:

Our Sister Company, eMobileMenus.com: www.eMobileMenus.com

Security Solutions provider, YSPSecurity.com: www.YSPSecurity.com

Zagg Sparq, a mobile charging product, Zagg.com: Zagg.com

In case you are wondering why we are pushing videos and where this logic came from, it’s the many studies that website optimizer teams have been performing. Many companies, individuals, and teams alike are drawing conclusions from a plethora of A/B testing, which shows videos equal more conversions.

A/B Testing is a method of testing performed by web pros and analysts in which different visitors are shown different versions of the same webpage. An analysis is then performed of the actions taken by both sets of visitors, such as time spent on the page, number of click-throughs, conversions, etc.

As I said a little earlier, videos are by no means a must, but if you’re looking for higher conversions and more click-throughs, you might want to consider adding a video to your website.

If you're going to add a video to your website, or are considering it, give Basch Soluitons, LLC a call and consult with professionals who have executed this before. Basch Solutions, LLC is a website design and web develompent company in Rochester, NY.
