Basch Solutions, IFW, & the NR4W Honors 35th Anniversary of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team

CHICAGO (August 9, 2015) – Members of the 1980 United States Olympic Wrestling Team will gather in Las Vegas on September 11, 2015, for a special event in their honor to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the XXII Olympics Games.

The invitation-only event will be held at the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino, 4000 W. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, during the 2015 World Wrestling Championships. All 18 of the surviving team members, as well as several coaches and officials, will attend the dinner and awards ceremony.

The event is presented by Basch Solutions and co-produced by the International Fraternity of Wrestlers (IFW) and the National Registry for Wrestling (NR4W).

"Basch Solutions is honored to be the presenting sponsor of this historical event", CEO Justin Basch stated.  "Marketing and branding Olympic athletes for the last seven years has given us a further glimpse at just how prestigious the Olympics are.  We're excited to take part in a historical documentation of the story of the 1980 US Olympic Wrestling team."

President Carter’s decision to boycott the Summer Olympics in Moscow due to the Soviet Union’s failure to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan cost many wrestlers their one chance at an Olympic medal. Seven of the 20 wrestlers went on to compete in later Olympic Games.

“Many people empathized with these athletes who worked so hard toward their goal of competing in the Olympics and not knowing if they would qualify to compete in the next games,” said Chuck Harman, IFW, board member. “More than 200 wrestlers and industry decision makers will pay tribute to these exceptional athletes who have led extraordinary lives and given so much of themselves to the competitive sport of wrestling.”

For the first time since 2003, the World Wrestling Championships are being held in the United States from September 7-12th.  Wrestlers from 100 nations will compete for championship titles in three wrestling disciplines: Men’s Greco-Roman, Women’s Freestyle and Men’s Freestyle.  More than 250 wrestling dignitaries and industry leaders at the national governing body and Olympic levels will also be in attendance.
