Five years ago, Justin Basch was broke and living out of his car.
Today he runs a web development company with more than 30 employees and clients such as Bausch + Lomb, UFC fighter Ken Shamrock, and retired New York Giants wide receiver David Tyree.
“God’s blessed me abundantly, man,” Basch said in a recent phone interview. “I was finding parking lots to live in, and now my company’s making six figures a year.”
Basch, now 25, never took a web design class or went to college. He founded Basch Solutions in 2008 after working online for fun in his spare time. The Rochester company’s growth can be attributed, in part, to sturdy word-of-mouth, he said.
The company goes about making websites by creating different versions of the home pages and using analytics to find out which one works.
“I’ve been referring him to everyone I know,” said Megan Donner, director of operations and marketing at Shear Ego International School of Hair Design. “We had such a great experience with him.”
Donner said Shear Ego has seen a “tremendous” increase in prospective students since Basch launched its website and helped start a newsletter.
Basch is also a project manager at Farin Innovations, another web development company run by Michael Farin. The two are also involved in a mobile web development company called eMobile Menus.
“Four years ago I would have never thought I’d be here,” Basch said. “I was rock bottom in my life then personally. Since then it’s all been up. Every single month since I’ve been in this industry the Internet has grown.”
