Your Website’s Primary Goal: To Streamline

Having a website is no longer an option in 2012. A website an absolute necessity. What you do with that website is ultimately up to you, but what you can do with that website has no limitations, if hiring the right company to build it out.

Once a business owner or marketing director comes to the realization that it’s time for a website, the first thought that should come into play is what is going to be done with that website and what can come from this investment.

Many companies approach us with the mentality that as long as they have a website they will be fine. Unfortunately, while it’s true to a degree, it’s not the approach you want to have. The approach you want to have is how can we use this website to streamline everyday processes in our business. Let’s dive in deeper.

Customers

Your website should and can be more than just a glorified business card, which is what many see a website to be.

Your website should be informative and interactive and should benefit both you and your customers. Your website gives you the means to streamline general information to prospects and customers.

Let’s face it, many customers and prospects have the same general questions, and you sit there and answer them one by one. Often spending time on the phone or in person that you could be spending doing something else beneficial to your company.

Now, it’s important to realize, I am not telling you to bypass human interaction. But at the same time, wouldn’t it be nice if your customers had a more solid foundation and background of knowledge when you initiate consultations and sales pitches?

This is where having a content management system comes into play on your website. Having a content management system (CMS) allows you to add content on the fly. For example – if a customer is calling you asking you the same piece of information over and over, it might be beneficial to all parties if you put that information on your website (and without having to call a tech geek to do it for you). #Streamlining

Internal Operations

Your website can not and should not only be beneficial to your customers, but it should be beneficial to you and your staff as well.

When you have programmers who know what they’re doing (like the team at Basch Solutions), new functionality and ways to streamline your internal operations become fun. Poor programmers are going to tell you its too hard or not possible. Good programmers are going to tell you that anything is possible and that it will be extremely beneficial to you and your company to move forward with the requests.

If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, let me explain.

Given that with PHP and programming anything is possible, you should be building in functionality to your website that helps you eliminate manual or excessive labor on your staff’s end. This applies to businesses of all shapes and sizes.

Some examples:

If you are a doctor, you could have patient forms downloadable on your website as PDF’s for customers to print out and fill out before they come in. The end result – time saved.

If you own a roofing company, you could have an entire request a quote form right online that lets a customer, at their own time and pace, give you all of their information and gives you a ton of information to work with and find a solution tailored to their needs. The end result – time saved.

If you are an insurance company, you could let the entire application process be done online and the form fields automatically printed onto PDF’s for submission to the parent insurance company. The end result – time saved.

I could go on and on, but I think I’ve made my point, and even if I did go on, every website is going to be different. Based on your company and the business model you’ve built your company around, your needs will be different, and there will be different ways to streamline internal operations for your company.

If you’re at a stand still, and don’t know how you could benefit from streamlining operations, don’t worry – you’re not alone. A lot of business owners, marketing directors, director of operations, and so fourth aren’t familiar with web technologies and up to date with what’s possible.

That’s where we come into play.
